Our water damage replacement never did blend in,
so we needed to replace the old floor.
Most of the kitchen was moved into the living room . . .
we lined our stools up at the island (bottom left of the photo)
and ate our meals there for about a week.
Dan and I took out the old floor - Dan ripped up the old boards
and I pulled out the staples that didn't come out with the boards.
Chips of wood were airborne fairly often - Yahoo!
We even have a little chip in our kitchen window from projectile flooring.
Think Safelight will make a house call?
Our neighbor is a General Contractor,
and he stopped by to see how things were going.
I happened to ask what it would cost to run a gas line to the stove area
(I would love to have a gas stove at some point)
and before we knew it we had more construction going on
than we planned on.
By choice, of course.
Mine anyway.
Dan stood by and said
"Whatever you want, dear."
Doesn't that sound like Dan?
The next day the subfloor went down,
and the next day they installed most of the walnut flooring.
But they ran out.
Just in the coat closet and the linen closet though.
They finished the visible areas.
So, we waited about 2 weeks for the additional floor to get here
and for the installers to come put it in.
They did that today.
Tomorrow the painters will come and cover the dents and dings in the walls,
and paint the baseboards.
I love the new floor.
When they finish painting I will post an 'after' picture.

All that drama... it looks awesome!! That floor is exactly the kind I like, dark and handscraped! I can't wait to see the after :) What did you do with the old floor?
Trash. It gets destroyed when you pull it out.
Yay! I love it! I can't wait to see it in person :)
It looks so nice. I love the color. Does that mean though when my boys come to play it will have all those nice dirt prints all over it?
