Germany with Jonathan

May 1 - 10, 2013
Jonathan took Dan and I
on a tour of his mission areas.

Our first stop was Berlin

Brandenburg Gate

The drink-mobile
6 people pedaling at once, and then the driver!

This place made a huge impression on me when I visited as a teenager.
In fact, it still does.
Checkpoint Charlie in 1967

It was a cool, drizzly day in Berlin, but we enjoyed seeing many sights in the city.

We also saw the Dome, and walked along it's upper ramparts -
which was a bit high and precarious for my comfort!

We visited some families from Jon's mission while we were in Berlin.
It is wonderful to meet these people and see the close,
caring relationship they have with Jonathan.

Next we visited Potsdam

- it's on the outskirts of Berlin.
I love Potsdam! It's a beautiful city.
And many of the streets in the city's shopping area
are open only to pedestrians and bicyclists,
with cobblestones, antique shops,
chocolate shops, bakeries,
a section with Dutch architecture,
and other wonderful things!

Wish I took a picture!

There is a huge park (King's hunting grounds?) called Sanssouci Park,
in which many fascinating ornate structures can be found
and huge open meadows and stands of huge beech and other  trees.
Sanssouci has some palaces, also.

Schloss Sanssouci

In the courtyard of the Friedenskirche
is a replica of the
Christus!

You really should google Sanssouci or Potsdam and look at all the amazing sights!
While in Potsdam we visited a family Jon spent a lot of time with in Potsdam.
At the end of our visit we gathered near the piano and sang hymns.  That's what they liked to do with Jonathan.

We visited with the Matthias family in Berlin at the end of this day -
They have 4 daughters, and are lots of fun!
We had 'tea' with cucumber sandwiches
and other goodies and drinks. (non-tea sort.)

Next:

Bernburg

Or Bear Town
It is on the rive Saale

I'll get these videos working soon.
